Starlooks 15 Shade Shadow Palette Part 2

Stop!! If you haven’t read Part 1 of this post

The Starlooks Palette does not have names for the shadows so I have numbered them as you can see below.

photo 1232323

Lets start with 1-5

1:: Metallic Silver Satin; Beautiful in the pan but not a lot of pigmentation.  To get the color  in the pan it takes lots of layers.  It is nice however as an inner color highlight with just one sweep.

2:: Magenta Matte; again beautiful in the pan but not the best pigmentation.

3:: Green Satin: Great color, great pigmentation.

4:: Light Matte Black; this is one of the more confusing colors in the palette.  It looks like a matte ash brown but swatched looks like a light black.

5:: Matte Charcoal: another perplexing color.  In the pan it looks like a common matte black, but swatched pigmentation shows a charcoal.

6:: Champagne Satin; Nice color and pigmentation

7:: White Glitter; Application is patchy and the glitter has fallout.

8: Matte Brown; great color and pigmentation, an excellent crease color.

9:: Copper Sparkle; Application can be a bit patchy but applied with a slightly damp brush (I lightly spritzed with a setting spray) it gives off a beautiful copper with gold sparkle.

10:: Deep Purple with Red Glitter;  This is my opinion is the standout in the palette.  The purple is so deep it can appear at times almost black.  The light has a way of catching the red glitter and it just looks amazing.

A better shot of #10 ( you can’t see the glitter that well, but trust me it’s there!)

11:: Matte Light Brown; this is a disappointing shadow because you can’t see it!  At least on my skin and the consistency is chalky 😦

12:: Satin Cream; this one is also patchy and the pigmentation is off

13:: Satin Gold; finally! Another good color and excellent pigmentation.

14:: Satin Yellow Gold; Another good color and good pigmentation.

15:: Brown with Gold Glitter; What a surprise three good colors in a row!

I just checked the Starlooks website and this palette is available for $30.00 but honestly I wouldn’t waste your money.  Out of fifteen shadows there are only 6 or 7 that you can use “as is”, the remainder take a little babying.  Also I am spoiled and most of my palettes have a mirror and this one doesn’t.

Bottom Line:: Don’t waste your money; I was not impressed enough with this  palette for even the reduced price I paid for it to consider repurchasing.

Starlooks 15 Shade Shadow Palette Part 1

If you read my blog you know I have a slight obsession with beauty subscription boxes.  Through my Ipsy box (or bag…) I was introduced to the brand Starlooks.  They are a Pro quality makeup line and on their site say they are comparable to Makeup Forever, Sephora, M.A.C, Chanel, Dior etc.  They also have their own beauty subscription box which I have not yet tried.

Ipsy has started offering specials where subscribers can buy brand name products at reduced prices for a limited time and there are also limited quantities.  When a Starlooks Fifteen Eye shadow Palette became available for $20.00 I placed my order immediately.  I knew from other bloggers that this brand ran on the expensive side, but to say I was shocked that the regular price for this palette was $99.00 would be quite the understatement.

It was hard for me to pluck down $54 for a Naked palette ( I ended up using a gift card for a portion of it so I didn’t feel too bad…) so I can tell you it would take a lot for me to buy the Starlooks Palette full price.  And by a lot I mean I half expected these eye shadows to sing and dance.  When you look at drug store brands like Almay, Maybelline, and L’Oreal the palette’s they offer are usually quads which range from $6-$10.   And with all of these brands in my experience, they are hit or miss on pigmentation and longevity.

One of the ways I rationalized to myself the purchase of a palette like the Naked was the cost of each individual shadow.  There are 12 shades so the cost per “eye-shadow” would be $4.50.  Now that doesn’t sound so bad.  Granted with a quad from the drugstore the cost would be $1.50-$2.50 a piece but let me have this!!  🙂    With my math skills that would make each individual shadow in the Starlooks Palette $6.60 which is roughly the cost of a L’Oreal Infallible single or Maybelline Color Tattoo.

On Friday I will have swatches and a full Review for you so stay tuned!!

November Ipsy Bag!

Hello Beauties!  So I decided to start sharing what I receive in my Ipsy bag with you all.  And I will do my best to use every product and write a review about it here. If you are not familiar with Ipsy it is a beauty subscription service that cost $10 a month. When you sign up you fill out a survey about your likes and dislikes regarding beauty products so each bag is customized to you.   This is my third Ipsy bag and so far I am very happy with what I have received.  Like any subscription box/bag, you may always find a few things you don’t like but I have yet to be totally disappointed with an entire bag. I am also subscribed to Birchbox which is a beauty box that is also $10.  If you would like me to do a comparison between Ipsy and Birchbox please let me know and I will write a post.

So here is what your Ipsy bag looks like when it comes in the mail…

And when I opened it this is what greeted me!

First off, I love love love the bag!! This is the first bag from Ipsy that I would actually use.  The others I have received were ok, but did look on the cheap side.  This one is really nice quality and totally fits with the November theme of “Glam It Up”.

First off is a Travel Size TRESemmé Extra Firm Control hairspray.  This is perfect timing as I leave tomorrow on vacation to Hawaii.

Now on to what is actually inside the adorable gold bag!

The first thing I see when I open the bag is a .em Michelle Phan Lip Balm in the color ‘Sorbet’  I have never used any products from Michelle Phan’s makeup line so I am excited to try this.

Next we have a eyeliner from StarLooks in the color ‘Topaz’ this liner is super soft so I am worried that it may be too soft and easily smudge and leave me with Topaz colored raccoon eyes.  I don’t know if you can tell in the swatch but the color is very metallic silver and has lots of sparkle, so it definitely has the ‘Glam It Up’ look.

Now I see a Pixi Beauty Bronzer in ‘Subtly Suntouched’.  I am very excited to try this as with my fair skin it is hard to find a bronzer that is not too orange or too dark. This color looks about right.

And guess what I see next… a nail polish!  Ok the color is nice but seriously I have sooo many nail polishes and to me this color is nothing special, I am sure I can find a dupe easily in my own collection.  This is from Nailtini in the color ‘Champagne’ which looks like a sparkly rose gold.  I have never used the brand Nailtini so I am anxious to try this see how the formula applies and wears.

And lastly I have a lip crayon from be a…bombshell (side note, love the name!) in the color ‘Hot Damn’.  This shade looks like a cross between a pinky red and a orangey red.  I can’t really say which it is so I am going to say it is a pink-orange red.  I am also excited to try this and from the swatch it goes on very smoothly and has a nice finish.  I will wear it one day and report on staying power and glossiness.

Just from the initial first look this Ipsy bag has been a home run for me.  All of the products minus the hairspray are new brands and/or products for me so it will truly be a test and review for all of them. If you are interested you can join me on ipsy and subscribe to the Glam Bag! You get 4-5 beauty products every month  for just $10.  Check it out here:
