Friday Fail:: Tresemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo

I don’t like to talk about products that didn’t work for me but I feel like I need to inform you about products that didn’t work so you don’t waste your money!  As always; this is my opinion, if you like the products I hate, good for you they just didn’t work for me.

I have a slight obsession with dry shampoo for multiple reasons.  1. I’m lazy   2. My hair gets super oily like the day after washing oily   3. My hair is straight and flat.

Dry Shampoo is a funny thing.  It is usually used for two purposes; one is to absorb grease and make hair look cleaner.  The other is to give hair some texture and volume.  I have found in my quest of the perfect Dry Shampoo that the perfect combination of oil absorbing and texture and volume enhancing is actually hard to find.  I decided to give the Tresemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo a go.  Well…. It is a no go.  For me this dry shampoo did not do anything to absorb the oil on my scalp and it also leaves a horrible white cast.  And as if that wasn’t enough it also leaves my hair dry and matted and its hard to brush through.  I wish I could give a better report but If I were you I would skip this next time you are looking for a dry shampoo.

Battle of the Dry Shampoos:: Herbal Essence ‘Naked Volume’ vs. ‘Color Me Happy’

I use a lot of dry shampoo… and when I say a lot, I mean a lot.  As in I go through a bottle every two-three weeks.  What can I say, I don’t like to wash my hair, it gets super oily and I have a lot of it!   As with any brand, you love some things, you hate some things.  I picked up several items from the Herbal Essence Naked collection a few months ago and I am close to finishing them up.  I don’t like to write reviews about hair and skin care until I’ve used it for a good while because I often think something is great and halfway through it takes a turn.

Anywho we are here today to talk about two different types of dry shampoo Herbal Essence has available in the US.  The ‘Naked Volume’ and the ‘Color Me Happy’.

Naked Volume

The Herbal Essence Website:: refresh your strands, water not necessary. with natural tapioca, my formula absorbs oil and rejuvenates dirty hair for a clean feeling. invigorate your strands with the scent of white grapefruit and mint and feel naturally beautiful without parabens or dyes.

This smells amazing!  It has a refreshing citrus and mint scent that sprays on clear!! This is an amazing feat if you are a connoisseur of  Dry Shampoo like I am becoming.  This also gives my hair volume which is also hard to come by in a dry shampoo that also gets rid of oil. I have found in my quest that with most dry shampoos you get one or the other, not both.  It is a bit tacky but I expect that from a volumizer.  I have gone through 3 bottles of this and it seems hard to find at my local drugstores.  When I do find it I buy two.

Color Me Happy

The Herbal Essence website:: wake up and smell the roses! or at least our tempting rose essences. refresh your hair with our color-protecting dry shampoo formula to get a first-day clean feel and tantalizingly fresh fragrance…no water needed. our natural tapioca will take care of extra oil any time of day, so feel free to use whenever you want to perk up your style without starting over.

Ok so this has a nice scent but I wouldn’t exactly call it rose, more floral.  The accompanying shampoo and conditioner have more of a rose scent.  While this did give me a little volume (not as much as Naked Volume) it didn’t do much for my oily hair. Also while not as bad as some it does leave my dark brown hair with a white cast.  It is OK in my book and if I had the choice between this and some others I’ve tried this is better than nothing but definitely not the best.

So who wins the battle of the Dry Shampoo’s this round?  The prize belongs to ‘Naked Volume’

October Hits and Misses

Sterling Silver Chain with Elephant Pendant – Silver $19.99 From Target http://tgt.biz/Hx1exA

 14613041

I love this little necklace and I enjoy wearing it.  It is definitely a conversation starter, every time I wear it I get a compliment.

Essential Little Black Beauty Book – Eye Edition in Warm $6.00 From e.l.f http://bit.ly/16FVlrh

I love finding quality product at a great price.  There are only a few products from e.l.f that I have been disappointed in and this is not one of them.  With 48 colors in a variety of matte, satin and shimmer there are endless looks to be created. This was the only eye palette I brought with me when I was out of town for a week.

Maybelline SuperStay 14 Hour Lipstick in Keep Me Coral $6.94 from Walmart  http://bit.ly/19CUJni

Keep-Me-Coral_pack-shot

Ok bottom line does this lipstick give you color for 14 hours straight? No.  But does that mean you shouldn’t try it? No.  While it doesn’t live up to its claim of 14 hour wear it is still a long wearing color that doesn’t dry out your lips and has a great color pay off.  I love the shade Keep Me Coral and I feel like it really complements my skin tone, so it is a keeper.

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Dark and Deep Brown $8.52 from Amazon http://amzn.to/Hx6122

FINALLY!!! A dry shampoo that doesn’t leave my hair with a white/gray cast and somehow also absorbs oil!  If you have dark hair and are struggling to find a dry shampoo that doesn’t make you look like you are three months past your root touch up then give this one a try.  And bonus, it doesn’t stink!

Bare Face Cleansing Oil $28.00 from Julep  http://bit.ly/187rllh

bareface_pdp_2

You have oily skin why would  you use oil to clean your face?  Good question, I don’t know why it works but it does.  While the price point on this is pretty steep ( I received mine in a julep maven box) this is by far the best cleansing oil that I have ever tried that doesn’t leave my skin with a slick feeling after being washed off.

Dark Orchid Raspberry Bubble Delight Bubble Bath $8.00 from Avon http://bit.ly/1ekBrGX

PROD_1164673_XL

I love Avon’s Bubble Bath formula.  It is seriously the best I have ever used. This bubble bath is scented with notes of rare orchids, intoxicating black raspberries and warm blonde wood which essentially smells like heaven!

No Misses I could think of this month, which I guess is a good thing!
