YoDerm Update II

YoDerm Update III

What is YoDerm? — Basically YoDerm is a dermatologist that you visit online.  I’m all for trying new things and I thought what the heck! You fill out what they call a “consultation” which is a detailed form about your past acne medications and treatments, how long you’ve had acne, and the like. And you also submit three pictures of your face! The fee for the consultation is $59.00

^^^ If you would like to try YoDerm follow this link to get $20 off your first consultation! ^^^

:: Again, I’m not sponsored or paid by YoDerm to talk about them.  After my first consultation I was given a code to share with my friends that allows them to start at a discount and I will get a $20 gift card from Amazon if anyone signs up::

Acne Update and YoDerm III

I just had my follow up visit via the inter-webs with my dermatologist! I don’t see a lot of improvement in my skin but I know that this is a process so I’m not giving up or feeling bad about my experience.  My dermatologist is going to make some changes to my regime and I’ll report back to her in another two months.

Week 1 (Hadn’t started any medications)

The Oil Cleansing Method vs Pre Packaged Cleansing Oils

Now that you know what the hype is surrounding cleansing oils, its time to expand that knowledge and try not to let your brain steep out of your ears with all the information that is going to be thrown at you.

My mom has always been a bit of “natural” person so to speak she was using coconut oil before it was cool and treated various aliments with essential oils. She is always looking for natural acne cures for me and trust me I think I’ve tired everything. She first suggested the Oil Cleansing Method to me several years ago and I first said no way and then decided what the hay I’ve tried everything else maybe it will work.

What is the Oil Cleansing Method?

The Oil Cleansing Method (From here on out we are going to say OCM) is a way to cleanse your face with a mixture of oils.  Now there are  dozens of opinions of what oils to mix to achieve OCM nirvana.  Here are just a few examples I found online–

From The Oil Cleansing Method::

  • Oily skin: Try a blend of 30% castor oil to 70% sunflower seed oil.
  • Balanced Skin: Try a blend of 20% castor oil to 80% sunflower seed oil.
  • Dry Skin: Try a blend of 10% castor oil to 90% sunflower seed oil.

Crunchy Betty::

  • Jojoba (all skin types, but very desirable for acne-prone skin)
  • Sweet almond (all skin types, especially oily)
  • Grapeseed (all skin types, especially oily)
  • Avocado (dry and aging skin)
  • Sunflower Seed (all skin types)
  • Apricot Kernel (dry, aging, and normal skin)
  • Argan (all skin types, especially aging skin … very pricey)
  • Tamanu (all skin types … very pricey)

Tree Hugger::

  • Oily skin: Blend 30% castor oil + 70% olive oil
  • Balanced skin: 20% castor oil + 80% olive oil
  • Dry skin: 10% castor oil + 90% olive oil

Confused yet?!

I was overwhelmed, so I  half heartedly mixed some castor oil, olive oil and jojoba oil together and used it on my face.  It didn’t make it worse but it wasn’t better and at that point I was so overwhelmed (and yes I did kind of want to prove my mother wrong….) that I declared it didn’t work and moved on.

But No Oil Lives Another Day…

Hello to Lara about 5 months ago when she noticed that skincare companies had taken the work out of mixing oils and done it for her!  Yay for being lazy!

I had one sent to me and decided to give it a try and oh my gosh night and day difference between what I had done myself and what was in this magical bottle.  Next post we will discuss my skin care routine and how I use my cleansing oil.

Acne Update and YoDerm II

So I thought my skin was doing better until like right after I posted my initial update last week and then it was like a bolt of lightning and my skin broke out so bad!   But I was warned (as with most acne treatments) that there is a purging time and your skin will get worse before it gets better.

Here is what I looked like 4 weeks ago…

Today…

I picked up round two of my prescriptions yesterday and I’m scheduled to have another virtual appointment in four more weeks.  Thankfully I really haven’t had any problems with my skin drying out but I have had some dandruff which is usual for me.  When I tried Proactive years ago my face was still oily but was red, itchy and had dry patches and my scalp got sooo dry!   I’ll get monitoring and hopefully my scalp will adjust, dandruff sucks! But not as bad as acne… 🙂

See my first update:: Acne Update and YoDerm and me in the future… here is update 3

Acne Update and YoDerm

So…. if you have been reading my blog for any length of time you know that I’ve struggled with acne for what seems like forever.  We are talking about over half my life (great now I feel old…) I thought (and my parents thought) that this was just the normal run of the mill teenage acne and it would clear up but as I’m looking at hitting my 3rd decade of life this year and STILL have the pesky horrible bumps I decided that I should let a professional handle this.   If anyone has ever had acne you know what a toll it takes on your self esteem.  And you’ve probably heard from everyone what you should do.  And guess what you’ve probably done it all!  I swear I have used every single over the counter acne wash and treatment plan known to man.  Chemical, natural, nothing at all…. I’ve done it all and nothing works for an extended period of time.  I was browsing Pinterst late one night (don’t we all…) and saw an ad for YoDerm.  I will start out by saying YoDerm has absolutely no clue who I am or that I’m doing this.  I’m not sponsored by the company and honestly I don’t know how I feel about them yet anyways.

Basically YoDerm is a dermatologist that you visit online.  I’m all for trying new things and I thought what the heck! You fill out what they call a “consultation” which is a detailed form about your past acne medications and treatments, how long you’ve had acne, and the like. And you also submit three pictures of your face! The fee for the consultation is $59.00.   Honestly I was willing to pay this amount because a few weeks earlier I had decided to finally book an appointment with a local dermatologist and found someone covered by my insurance and booked an appointment… for four weeks out.  That was the fastest they could get me in.  And the office visit was going to cost me $50.00.  So for $9 more I could have a doctor get back to me within 48 hours… Sounds like a win-win.

Right now YoDerm is available in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Washington, Arizona, Indiana, Tennessee, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota & Colorado;  As this is where they have licensed dermatologists.

I filled out the consultation and submitted my photos on Wednesday night March 30 and before 6pm on Thursday March 31, my assigned Doctor had reviewed my information and sent me my treatment plan and my prescriptions had already been sent to the pharmacy I had requested on my consultation form.  My treatments plan is as follows::

AM:
– Aczone
– Sunscreen
PM:
– Aczone
– Differin
– Acticlate
– Moisturizer

So I have three different medications.  Aczone and Differin are topical and Acticlate is oral.  Today is 3 weeks since I’ve started the process and I can see some minor changes.  I know that this is not going to be an overnight fix and my instructions were to use the three products for two months before getting back in touch with my dermatologist via YoDerm.

I am hopeful that my acne will finally be cleared up and I want to help other people who have the same issues.  I know what it is like to hate your face and skin and if I can help one person then its worth it 🙂   Next Friday I will include an update with pictures of what my face looks like now compared to my initial submitted pictures which are below.  And trust me this is my skin on a good day and it has improved since my teenage acne but its still not great.

** Updates– Update 2; Update 3; Update 4

Vanished Spot Treatment from Clear Clinics Laboratories

I received a sample of this treatment in my July Ipsy bag and promised a review so here you go!

photo 1

Clear Clinics Says::  “vanished is an on-the-go, clear spot treatment specially formulated with menthol, glycolic acid and salicylic acid. Apply this potent spot treatment to quickly clear blemishes in record time. Thanks to its clear formulation, you can use vanished during the day, under and over makeup. Its travel-sized bottle makes it easy to take with you wherever you go.”

Lara Says:: This product has a very strong alcohol smell, I mean really strong!  So that if very off putting for me.  I was not impressed with this treatment and at $35.00 this is a product I would recommend skipping.  I didn’t find that it dried out my breakouts or healed them any faster.  In fact I really like the e.l.f. Essentials Zit Zapper much better and it cost $1.00.  I would suggest giving that a try before you fork over $35.00

Products Mention::

Clear Clinics Vanished:: $35.00

e.l.f. Essentials Zit Zapper $1.00

What do you use to zap your zits?  Let me know, I’m always looking for suggestions!!

Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturize

I remember hearing a few YouTube beauty gurus talk about this moisturizer over the summer.  I haven’t been able to find it until last week.  And I have to say it was worth the wait.  For those that read my blog you are fully aware of my super oily, acne laden skin.  I have a hard time finding a good moisturizer that isn’t too heavy and doesn’t  sits on my skin and never absorbs or does’t break me out.

0038137115687_500X500

This formula sank right into my skin and doesn’t sit for any amount of time. This is really nice because until now I have had to wait a good ten minutes before I move on in my beauty routine for my moisturizer to absorb.  I have only two compliments, and one is really just thinking of others and is not a issue for me.  The first that I think could be a problem for some people is the scent; it is a unique blend of cucumber and green mango extract.  The scent of cumber is very strong, but it is not a problem for me.  My Target sold a little sample size so I would test that out first and make sure you like it before you invest in the full size.  My personal complaint is that there is no SPF. The foundation that I am using now does have SPF in it, but on the weekends I usually go make up free and it is nice to have SPF in my moisturizer if that is all I am going to be wearing.  Overall I am very presently surprised and I can see other brands jumping on the gel moisturizer in the future, and really my question is why has it taken this long?!
