Borghese Splendore vs. High Beam vs Buxom Luminizer

Dupe time again!  I received the Borghese Splendore Brightening Makeup in my December Birchbox and immediately thought that it looked like Benefit High Beam.  So I decided to do some swatching…

PicMonkey Collage

As you can see with most of my ideas of dupes I am completely off.  It just goes to show that just because something looks the same in the bottle doesn’t mean it is.   I think the Buxom is a true golden highlight, High Beam is a pink, and the Borghese is a rose gold.  When you swatch the Borghese next to high beam it appears more gold and then when swatched next to the Buxom is appears more pink.

Borghese Splendore Brightening Makeup:: $30.00

benefit High Beam:: $26.00

Buxon Divine Goddess Luminzer:: $28.00

Birchbox Haul!

I had some Birchbox points sitting just screaming to be used so I decided to pick up a few things from the Birchbox shop!  One of the things I love about Birchbox is their points system which translate into cold hard cash for you to use on whatever you want in the shop.

Benefit Gimme Brow

PicMonkey Collage

Birchbox Breakdown

We spend more time than is reasonable lusting after Camilla Belle’s bold brows—which is why we’re more than a little excited about this magical brush-building invention. Just a few brush strokes deliver fuller, darker brows that stay in place all day and still manage to look natural. We told you it was magic.

How it Works

The water-resistant fiber gel adheres to skin and hair and comes in two colors: light-medium and medium-deep. The tapered brush with a precision tip lets you shape and blend with ease.

Benefit BeneBalm

PicMonkey Collage456

Birchbox Breakdown

It used to be that if you were looking to add just a touch of natural color to your lips, your best bet was to chow down on a strawberry Popsicle. Benefit has a more practical (and portable) solution: this tinted lip balm. Modeled after the brand’s iconic lip and cheek tints, the creamy formula hydrates and conditions lips while providing a wash of sheer, barely-there red.

How it Works

This rose-tinted balm softens and smooths dry lips with a blend of mango butter and sodium hyaluronate.

Yes to Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Towelettes

Birchbox Breakdown

In a perfect world, we’d fully commit a portion of our precious evening time to washing, toning, moisturizing, and pampering our skin. In reality, we’re lucky if we remember to take off our makeup before we face-plant into our pillows (not exactly the recipe for a flawless complexion). That’s why we’re stocking up on these facial wipes. In the time it takes to get up and turn off our lights, we’re able to wipe away makeup, unclog pores, and fight off blemishes.

How it Works

These 97 percent natural wipes gently cleanse, exfoliate, and treat blemish-prone skin. Tomato extract reduces inflammation caused by angry breakouts, controls oil production, and protects skin from environmental agents that can cause acne. Salicylic acid sloughs off dead skin cells and opens up clogged pores, accelerating the healing process. Plus, it’s free of unwanted ingredients like petroleum, SLS, and parabens.

 Ahmad Tea London Bus Caddy

Birchbox Breakdown

In addition to all-things Kate Middleton, London is famous for its red double-decker buses. As it turns out, they’re good for more than ferrying tourists—they’re also an excellent (and handsome) way to store our tea. This continental caddy holds 25 bags of the best-in-class brand’s English Afternoon blend. When you’ve exhausted its supply, just refill it with your favorite Ahmad Tea.

How it Works

Part musky, part lemony, this English Afternoon Tea combines Indian, Ceylon, and Kenyan leaves to create a tasty p.m. brew.

Benefit Gimme Brow ( I bought Light Medium) $22.00

Ok so if you are not on board with Birchbox what are you waiting for?!  One of the reasons I keep coming back to Birchbox is their points system where you use your points to buy products in the Shop. You can get points a few different ways: One is by referring people (50 points),  buying products in the shop (1 point for every $1 spent), and by reviewing the products you received in your box (10 points for each review).  And… 100 points=$10.  So with a little math you can see that if you review all your products every month, you will get, on average, $5 in points a month.  I like to look at that as getting my box for half price!

First off, do you like my beach picture?  I took it at Keawakapu Beach last year when I visited my sister in Hawaii.  Also don’t forget to check out the giveaway all the info is on the contest page!

Sigma F35 Tapered Highlighter Brush

Sigma Says:: Unique Feature: Small and tapered with a precise tip
Function: Subtle highlighting
Recommended Use: Apply highlighting shades onto the upper contours of the face. Diffused finish gives skin a natural glow.

Lara Says:: I actually find this brush very useful in applying bronzer and for contouring.  I can get just the right amount of product on the brush put it right where I want and then take a bigger fluffy brush and blend out.  Try your brushes out in different areas of your face and the possibilities are endless!! And extra points for Multitasking products/supplies!!

Pop Beauty Aqua Lacquer in Flowering Fuchsia

PicMonkey Collage4569

Pop Beauty Says:: This refreshing water-light luxe gloss will bathe your lips in hydration & protect with Vitamin E. We also added Jojoba oil, an exceptional moisturizer for maximum lip comfort. These sheer colour tints provide staying power as well as a cure for thirsty lips.

Lara Says:: I keep this is my purse so I always have it.  It has become my go to gloss and is great over any lipstick or just by itself.  It has a slight mint flavor and does tingle a bit when you apply it.  It has staying power with minimum stickiness.  If I ever use this up I will definitely be buying another!

Maybelline’s Dream Wonder Powder in Porcelain Ivory

Maybelline Says:: Maybelline’s Dream Wonder Powder is 100% Second- Skin Powder Foundation Perfection. Creamy glide, smooth flawless finish, perfect skin. Feels like powderless powder.

Lara Says:: This is probably the most amazing pressed powder I have found at the drugstore.  And you know I love it because I have recommended it to no less than 10 people.  It goes on smooth and doesn’t look cakey whatsoever and the coverage is buildable. So you can use it as a powder over your foundation and for touchups throughout the day (as I typically do). Or you can build it up to full coverage and wear it alone.  This is my second time repurchasing and won’t be my last!

Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara

 PicMonkey Collage89

Mally Says:: This Volumizing Mascara has a unique formula that helps create the look of gorgeous, full, luxurious lashes. The combination of natural waxes and carefully chosen powders gives lashes an instant boost. The plush brush works with the powders in the formula to help thicken lashes without clumping, giving you gorgeous volume that lasts and lasts.

Lara Says:; I received this mascara in a birchbox and I love it! If you have been a reader of this blog for any length of time you know I call myself a mascara whore.  I cannot stay faithful to one and I feel  I am on an eternal quest to find the holy grail of mascara that curls, lengthens, separates and is volumizing… I know it exist and I will find it.  Until then this is pretty awesome.  I did a review which you can find here.

Herbal Essence ‘Naked Volume Dry Shampoo

Herbal Essence Says:: The Herbal Essence Website:: refresh your strands, water not necessary. with natural tapioca, my formula absorbs oil and rejuvenates dirty hair for a clean feeling. invigorate your strands with the scent of white grapefruit and mint and feel naturally beautiful without parabens or dyes.

Lara Says:: Still my favorite after trying many. Clear application and it absorbs the oil and gives some volume and lift.  I did a review and comparison a few months ago, you can read it here.

And now for my one Un-Favorite/ Fail….

Benefit they’re real! push-up liner

download (1)

Benefit Says:: It’s the FIRST EVER lash-hugging gel liner in a pen! This matte black gel formula won’t smudge, budge or dry out, and the innovative soft AccuFlex™ Tip hugs your lashline from corner to corner. The closer the line, the bigger the eye!
91% said it was longwearing*
81% said it was waterproof*
88% said it hugged the lashline*
84% said eyes looked visibly larger*
*Results observed in a consumer panel survey on 32 women after 2 weeks

Lara Says:: I watched and read enough reviews that I was apprehensive to try this liner.  I received it in my last birchbox and I was not impressed.  First off, mine did dry out, as the cap didn’t want to stay on.  This may have only been an issue with the sample size I received and not the full size product but after about the third time the lid popped off after I put it on it finally stayed down.  And when applying I found that either I got nothing out or way too much came out.  For me I much prefer the use of a pencil or gel liner with a brush as I have more control.

This moth I was given a choice to get my normal Birchbox with sample gathered from my profile or to choose the EveryGirl box.  I chose to give the EveryGirl box a try, and I’m pleased with what I got! But first lets talk about this box…

This is a very large box for two very small boxs…

July Favorites 2014

Its that time of month…

Lips: NYX Butter Gloss in Peach Cobbler.  This is a gorgeous red orange color, but its totally wearable.  The Butter Gloss formula is amazing and it feels so good on the lips and it smells like sugar!

PicMonkey Collage898989232

Lovely By Sarah Jessica Parker I have wanted to try this perfume mostly because the bottle was pretty and I liked the name! I saw this at my local Ross deeply discounted and knew that the time was right!  This perfume smells heavenly!  My sister said it reminded her of a grandma perfume but I think it smells like a sophisticated  lady, so therefore I shall wear it. This is a blend of mandarin, rosewood, lavender, apple martini, and bergamot. Sooo Good!!

High Beam by Benefit I’ve been mixing a little bit of this highlighter in with my foundation and it makes me look amazing!  When I use a heaver full coverage foundation I add just a few drops and it gives my skin a glowy effect but not shimmery.  You know the difference 🙂  perfect for late summer nights out! I’m recycling an old pictures but you can see High Beam below.

PicMonkey Collage989

Nellie and Bea from Julep

I’m loving this color combo!  I added it to my toes and I’ve gotten nothing but compliments!  These two colors are the perfect summer combo.

Melaleuca Lip Balm- in Sugar and Spice

The consistence of this balm reminds me of fresh Sugar balms.  Its super soft so I don’t recommending leaving them anywhere they will get overheated as they will melt.  I thought you could buy this product without being a member but I can seem to be able to directly order from their site.  I have seen this brand on ebay and amazon or you could find a distributor in your area.

Stila One Step Correct  I’ve never been in love with a primer before I think this may be it!  I will be giving a full review this week so stay tuned!
