Birchbox Exclusive Cynthia Rowley Beauty Collection No. 2

I had some birchbox points just sitting on my account screaming to be used so I decided to give this Cynthia Rowley collection a try.

PicMonkey Collage

“If the confetti design didn’t tip you off, Cynthia Rowley’s Eye Shadow Palette – No. 2 is ready for a good time. Help yourself to five candy-inspired shades: Cotton Candy, a soft lavender; Licorice, a shimmery charcoal; Cloud, a velvety taupe; Marshmallow, a versatile cream; and Confetti, a pastel pink speckled with purple and cream. The sleek palette has a magnetic closure and a built-in mirror for easy application. Equal parts playful and polished, the Mini Creamy Lip Stain in Valentine offers the moisture and shine of a gloss, paired with the ultralong wear of a stain. Not to be outdone, the Mini Eyeliner in Black goes on velvety-smooth for smudge-proof, all-day wear. Store all three products in the Neoprene Confetti Bag made from Cynthia Rowley’s signature wetsuit fabric. In short, this collection is a match made in product heaven.”

The eye shadows are soft and blend very easily. But because they are soft they do need a light hand.  I have used the Lip Stain and the Eyeliner before as they have come in my birchbox sample box before.  I like them both as they have staying power and the eyeliner does not move!

Number 4 Lumiere d’hiver Clarifying Shampoo

I received this deluxe sample size of clarifying shampoo in a birchbox.  I have been using it about once every two weeks for around 3 months.  I’ve been really impressed with how well it cleans my hair and doesn’t dry it out.  That is a problem with a lot of clarifying shampoo, that in doing their job (stripping the hair of buildup) it takes out all of the moisture and leaves your hair with a dry and brittle feeling.  Your hair will feel clean but still feel like your hair, not a dried out version.  When I use a clarifying shampoo I also make sure to deep condition on the same day, but I’ve found with this shampoo I don’t necessarily have to.

The only thing stopping me from repurchasing this product is the price.  Are you ready for it? A 25 ounce bottle (which is large granted) is $72.00.  Yes you read that correctly $72.00, for that price I could buy nine bottles of Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo!  While the Neutrogena is a bit more drying, it effectively does the same thing at a fraction of the cost.

Mask Monday:: Sibu Beauty Sea Buckthorn Purifying Mask

photo 1 (2)

The sea buckthorn purifying mask deep cleans pores while also purifying skin. This mask contains sea buckthorn, detoxifying clays, exfoliating enzymes and shea butter. This masks is excellent for all skin types and makes your face feel so refreshed!  The shining star in this product is the sea buckthorn berry which  is a tiny berry that has over 190 bioactive compounds and has omega-7 fatty acids.

If you are a regular reader you know I love multi-tasking products and this is one of them!  This mask has a grainy texture so when you rinse it off you are also getting a little exfoliation.  Also this mask doesn’t dry skin tight so you can still move your face when it dries.

Another great feature of Sibu Beauty is that their products are vegan, cruelty-free and don’t contain parabens and sulfates.

photo 2 (2)

I usually buy my Sibu Beauty through Hautelook as it is deeply discounted.  I also know that Swanson Vitamins carries Sibu Beauty products at a discounted price.

With Hautelook I got two masks for $22.00, buying directly from Sibu the mask retails for $29.95 and on Swanson’s online store it retails for $23.96

Ipsy July 2014

Today is Ipsy Day!  I actually got my Ipsy bag before I got my Birchbox, but Ipsy got lost under a pile of clothes…. #LifeProblems

photo 1

Alright first off, I’m really not impressed this month :(  Usually Ipsy beats out Birchbox or its a tie but this month Birchbox beat Ipsy by quite a bit… So lets see what I was not impressed with…

PicMonkey Collage8989

I have gotten quite a few Elizabeth Mott products from Ipsy, I feel like every month I get something from Be A Bombshell or Elizabeth Mott or both!  I like diversity… this is the Tints and Sass Fabulous Lip and Cheeks Stain in Cherry.  The color is nice and looks very similar to the Benefit Benetint in Rose.  I will have to swatch them side by side and see if they are similar.  Out of all of the products this is probably what I’m most excited to try and as a full size item it more then pays for the Ipsy monthly subscription so I guess I shouldn’t complain about not liking my bag that much…

photo 1

Up next is an acne spot treatment from Clear Clinics Laboratories called Vanished. This is a new brand for me, but I have sooo many acne spot treatments in my bathroom its ridiculous! I opened this up and was hit with a very strong odor of Alcohol, like super strong, not crazy about putting that on my face… But I will give it a try and let you know the results.

PicMonkey Collage789

This is probably what I’m least excited about.  This is a nail polish from the brand Models Own which is also new to me.  Looking at their website, I like a lot of the polishes they have but I’m not a fan of the one I was sent.  It is the shade called “Red Sea-Splash”  It is definitely something I would have to layer over another color as I think it looks a little weird on my bare nail in the picture.

imageUp next is a product from bareMinerals.  It is the 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15.  That is a mouthful and I’m surprised they were able to get that all on this teeny tiny tube! This Cream promises 5 benefits (so there for its a BB cream?!  I’m getting a little irritated with all the products with double letters, like they’re supposed to be better.  But that’s for another post however before I step off my soapbox I would like to say that I really feel for the letter A, we have BB, DD, CC…). The five benefits are  12-hour long-wearing color, Super-charged primer, Powerful brightening benefits, Smooths fine lines and Protects with SPF.  This product comes in 10 neutral shades and I can’t find a shade anywhere on my little sample.  According the Ipsy site, I would have gotten either Divine Wine or Barely Nude.  Looking online I think out of those two colors I have Divine Wine.

Lastly is a Sunscreen from pur-lisse.  I have fair skin and I live in the sunny state of Florida so I use sunscreen on a daily basis.  That being said my face is very sensitive to sunscreen and I’ve only found a few that don’t sting my face or cause me to break out.  And according to this packaging this was developed for normal-dry skin.  I am not normal (skin or otherwise) and I am nowhere dry, I’m super oily.  So… I don’t think I will be able to use this at all.

July 2014 Birchbox

Its that time again!  I feel like birchbox has really stepped up their game with the past few boxes.  I have been getting more products and bigger sizes… Good for you Birchbox!

PicMonkey Collage5656

So lets take a peek into what this Health themed box holds for me today…

photo 4

As you can see lots of goodies!  Alright first off

PicMonkey Collage456

We have this Ruffian nail polish from their Rapture collection in the shade Ambrosia.  Birchbox started offering something new to their subscribers this past month were you  get to choose one of your samples and/or shade!  I was super excited about that as one of the two samples was something I already had (Cynthia Rowley lip gloss) and in the Rapture Collection there are three colors and two were similar to shades I already own.  I don’t have anything like this metallic purple so I’m excited to give it a try on my nails this weekend!

Also included as a bonus is a Ruffian Acetone-free towelette to remove the polish, Thanks Birchbox!

PicMonkey Collage787

Next are these two cute little sample pots of Beauty Protector Protect and Treat Mask.  I like the Beauty Protector line so I’m excited to try this and it smells amazing like the rest of the line.  I think I could get 2-3 uses out of every pot so I think I should be able to give a pretty solid review on this hair mask.

PicMonkey Collage

Ok Birchbox, one complaint for this box…I feel like I always get a lotion and it takes me forever to get through even sample sizes!  So if we could lay off of that for a few months that would be super nice.  But, this Naobay Body Radiance Lotion does have a nice scent and I will add it to my collection on my desk at work.

PicMonkey Collage898

Isn’t this little Posiebalm from Benefit the cutest thing! Why is it that women (well at least me…) have a fit when something is in a small package?  This lip balm is just so cute in its little package!  This is a mango butter balm that has a very sheer wash of pink.  I swiped it on as soon as I got it out of its packaging and its been on for about 30 minutes and is still moisturizing.

photo 3

Lasty is the most intriguing product in this months box.  It is the Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel.  The card says that this is an acid free peel that gently exfoliates for softer, smoother, brighter skin instantly… We shall see, I hope I can get a few uses out of this bottle so I can give a true review.

Ok so if you are not on board with Birchbox what are you waiting for?!  One of the reasons I keep coming back to Birchbox is their  points system where you use your points to buy products in the Shop. You can get points a few different ways: One is by referring people (50 points),  buying products in the shop (1 point for every $1 spent), and by reviewing the products you received in your box (10 points for each review).  And… 100 points=$10.  So with a little math you can see that if you review all your products every month, you will get, on average, $5 in points a month.  I like to look at that as getting my box for half price!

Products Mentioned::

Birchbox Subscription- $10.00 a month

Ruffian Nail Lacquer in Ambrosia- $11.00

Ruffian Dressing Room Nail Lacquer Remover Towelettes- $12.00

Beauty Protector Protect and Treat Hair Mask- $25.95

Naobay Body Radiance Lotion- $24.00

Benefit Posiebalm- $18.00

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel-$48.00

Review:: Avon Extra Lasting Liquid Foundation

If you can’t tell from my recent posts, I’ve been on a bit of an Avon kick.  Most of the products I’m sharing with you are ones that I’ve had for a while and have either forgotten I’ve had (oops…) or haven’t used because I wanted to finish up a similar product, or I hated it  and kept it around thinking it would magically change…

And this is one of the products that for some odd reason I thought I would love if I just let it sit for a while… Yeah, not working!  I guess the reason I held onto my delusion is that everyone I know who uses this foundation loves it.  Well sorry folks but I hate it! I have oily skin and according to the information I was able to find this foundation is supposed to be suitable for oily skin.  Not my oily skin!  I have tried this with no primer, primers (4 in total!) with different finishing powders and setting sprays… Sorry y’all no bueno!

According to the Avon description “Flawless, lightweight buildable coverage. Looks natural and stays fresh for 18 hours.” Umm, no; more like 1-2 hours tops! First off flawless?  No, This is not a full coverage foundation it is medium and I did not find that it was buildable to much past medium.  Granted I do have acne scarring and pigmentation, but after attempting to “build” it up and seeing no visible difference I turned to a heavy duty full coverage concealer to get the job done.

Looks natural? Well yes of course it does because your skin is showing through because it doesn’t cover anything!

Stays fresh for 18 hours?  Heck no, within 1-2 hours I was an oily mess.  Even on the days I used primers and powder it still did not make a difference.  And really, why should it if the foundation doesn’t have the ability to cling to the primer or absorb the powder? It really just felt like the foundation just sat on my skin.  I can’t describe it but it just didn’t feel ‘right’.  Not only does this make me super oily but it pulls and gathers in my pores (yuck!) and lines around my mouth, not at all pretty people!

This is the second time I have bought this foundation.   I bought it first about two years ago and was not impressed so I returned it.  For some odd reason I thought about two months ago that I would give it another go.  Needless to say this foundation will not be given a third chance.
